A Scum Convo with Naomi the disciple
For our Scum Convo, we had a short but powerful conversation with Naomi, a content creator dedicated to spreading love, light, and scripture. From all our interactions with her, we noticed someone who is positive and zealous for Jesus. Enjoy the convo!
First, a warm-up—tell us who you are and what you do.
My name is Naomi, and I am a student at Brown University majoring in Education Studies. Although I plan to become a middle school ELA teacher right after graduation, my ultimate goal is to start my own Christian youth ministry program one day.
You often post a “song of the day,” but what is your current favorite song and why?
Lately, I’ve been listening to P31 by Kijan Boone. In the song, Kijan shares his feelings about a past relationship where the girl he was with was “not P31” (a reference to Proverbs 31) and how much pain she caused him. P31 really hits home for me because my most recent relationship was very hard to let go of, but ultimately it wasn’t bringing me closer to God, so I simply had to. It’s also a very catchy song!
You share a lot of biblical knowledge on your page. How did that start, and why?
I decided to take this year off from my studies to focus on deepening my relationship with God. In the process, I became passionate about spreading the gospel on social media. It all started on TikTok, but about a month and a half ago, I felt strongly led to start sharing God’s word on Instagram as well.
As a newly born-again Christian, I’m constantly learning more about what it means to walk with Christ and live a holy life. However, if being transparent about my faith online can inspire others to learn more about Jesus, why would I shy away from that?
What makes you resonate with our brand?
I love clothing that makes a statement, especially a Godly one. I think it’s a beautiful, creative, and unique way to spread the love of Christ. That’s what makes me resonate most with Scum Clothing.
I also think the bear logo showcased on all your clothing items is extremely cute yet still impactful. When I received my first item from your brand, I wasn’t expecting the quality to be so amazing, but it was. And that’s yet another reason why I love your brand so much. Truly underrated.
Do you have a motivating message or verse for the reader?
You don’t have to be an already “righteous” or “holy” person to make the decision to walk with Christ. I recently saw a reel on Instagram that said:
“You don’t step into a shower already clean, you allow the shower to cleanse you. That’s exactly how we need to treat our relationship with Christ.”
When I found Christ, I was at my lowest and most sinful. But I cried out to Him, and He answered me, and He has continued to answer me to this day.
God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called. No matter what, we will always fall short of the glory of God, but what’s most important is that we keep our hearts open to Him so He can purify and perfect us exactly as He sees fit.
